EU Family Limits

At Copenhagen Sperm Bank, we have chosen to implement a limit of 25 families within EU. While there are national limits regulate the number of families per country, we wish to secure a clear and transparent limit across the EU.

During the last years, there has been stories of cases with sperm donors who has been used for a very high number of families. Too many children per sperm donor can create emotional stress for both donors, donor conceived persons and their parents.

While there are currently no single, unified EU-wide limit legislation, we believe is is important to act with care and foresight. By setting a clear EU Family Limit, we aim to help protect families, donor conceived individuals and donors, by reducing the likelihood of a large number of genetically related individuals within the same region and generation.

How do the EU Family Limit Work?

  • Our EU Family limit works in addition to the existing national family limits.
  • Each donor has a maximum of 25 family slots available across all EU countries combined.
  • Family slots are purchased at the time of ordering
  • Once 25 slots have been purchased, the donor becomes unavailable in all EU countries, regardless of how many slots remain unused in any single country.

Why Choose Copenhagen Sperm Bank?

Our EU Family Limit is one of several ways we take responsibility that goes beyond regulation. We believe intended parents deserve a sperm bank that thinks ahead, where the wellbeing of donor-conceived individuals, donors, and families shapes every decision we make.
